Robert Keith White, MD

Dr. Robert Keith White is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery for Louisiana State University Health Shreveport and holds the John C. McDonald MD, Endowed Chair of Surgery. Dr. White obtained both his undergraduate and post-graduate medical degree from Louisiana State University. He served his surgical internship at the University of Missouri Health Sciences Center in Columbia under Dr. Donald Silver and completed his categorical general surgery training under Dr. John McDonald at LSU Health Shreveport. After working at the Artificial Heart Research Laboratory in Salt Lake City, Utah, under Dr. William Gay, Dr. White continued and completed his training in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center. Upon completion of his laboratory and clinical experience in Utah, Dr. White joined LSUHSC in Shreveport as Assistant Professor of Surgery and later as Associate Clinical Professor specializing in cardiac transplantation and complex aortic reconstructive surgery. He relocated to northeast Louisiana where he organized a new and successful cardiothoracic and vascular program and later served as President and Chairman of the Board for a large multispecialty medical group. On his return to LSU Health Shreveport, he took over as Director and Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery before becoming Chairman of the Department of Surgery. Dr. White has served on numerous medical and governmental advisory committees. He enjoys cycling, swimming, and, most importantly, time with his family.
