Sarwat Umer, MBBS

Dr. Sarwat Umer graduated from King Edward Medical University, Lahore Pakistan in 1997. She received training in Combined Medicine-Pediatrics from Louisiana State University Health Shreveport, and completed her Fellowship in Adult Rheumatology at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport, Center of Excellence for Arthritis and Rheumatology. She has further advanced her skills with another year of clinical fellowship training in Pediatric Rheumatology at University of Texas Southwestern, Dallas Texas. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatric and Rheumatology.Dr. Umer currently serves as Pediatric Rheumatology Clinic Director at LSU Health Shreveport's Center of Excellence for Arthritis and Rheumatology and provides consultation services to Shriner's Hospital for Children. Dr. Umer treats pediatric patients from entire Northwest Louisiana and neighboring States. She provides care for patients with Juvenile arthritis, Pediatric Lupus, Scleroderma, Vasculitis, Uveitis, Juvenile Dermatomyositis, Morphea, IBD related arthropathy, Juvenile Sarcoidosis and Auto inflammatory syndromes.Dr. Umer is also very active in resident, fellow, and student education and currently serves as Associate Program Director for Rheumatology fellowship. Dr. Umer is the recipient of Inaugural Alice Coleman Endowed Professorship in Pediatric Rheumatology. She has also earned Dr. Allen A. Copping Award for Excellence due to her passion of teaching. Dr. Umer is a member of national and international organizations such as American College of Rheumatology (ACR), Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA), Alpha Omega Alpha (AΩA) and Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS). She has numerous research interests and is involved in ongoing clinical research trials in the field of Rheumatology. In her spare time, Dr. Umer loves to travel, read, volunteer and spend time with her husband and two boys.
